École-O-Champ / Farm to School - what is it?

Have you ever wondered about these things? Where does my food come from? What is grown in our northern climate? How do you grow a nut, an asparagus, a pig, a tomato, a squash? Raw milk cheese, what is it? Do chickens have teeth? Can we eat duck eggs or geese eggs? Do our clothes come from sheep’s wool, animal skins or made from plants?  What is a pigment? What types of meat can be produced near you? What exactly is a farmer?

Our team at Farm to School / École-O-Champ (EOC) will demystify all these questions. We are experts in many fields such as agriculture, food, environment, science and especially… fun!

Farm to School/ École-O-Champ has expertise in teaching about all these topics through activities, which we call educational modules. Our experts are farmers, and students or graduates of programs in agriculture, agronomy, environment, dietetics, nutrition, food and education. Our objective is to promote local agriculture and get to know who grows our food. Farm to School  provides agricultural education adapted to the reality of your environment. We do not tell anyone what to do. Instead we seek to value the agri-food resources that you already have around you and encourage you to partner with Farm to School!

What people says

It’s so important for children to spend time in a farming environment. It allows them to understand and develop an appreciation for the effort and the energy that goes into growing the food we eat every day.

Jessica Mascioli (parent)

Merci pour une semaine absolument magnifique. Les filles ont beaucoup appris et ont de beaux souvenirs.

Parent

C’est facile de les réveiller le matin, je dis tout simplement “qui veut nourrir les animaux!”

Parent

When your seven-year-old son comes home talking about seed dissemination and that he really enjoyed learning about that through games and having fun and being outside, for me it’s a no-brainer, he’s definitely coming back next year!

Parent

Je pense que ça développe le sens de la responsabilité.

Participating youth

Après avoir participé, j’ai demandé à mes parents de faire un potager ensemble cette année.
